Strategies for Rebuilding a Healthier, Safer

and More Peaceful Global Community

Together, we can build a better world.

A fulfilling life is built on stability, dignity, and opportunity. Yet across Europe and the world, millions of people face daily struggles—unsafe housing, lack of clean water, unreliable energy, limited healthcare, and scarce economic opportunities. These challenges are deeply connected, and they require solutions that address people’s needs in a holistic way.

Rising living costs, economic inequality, and fragile infrastructure have made life harder for both low-income and middle-income families. Communities are under pressure, and without support, cycles of poverty, exclusion, and hardship continue.

95 million Europeans live at risk of poverty.

Millions more live with barriers that prevent them from thriving—whether that means struggling to keep a business alive, lacking safe shelter, or being unable to access reliable healthcare. We believe everyone deserves the chance to live with dignity and build a better future.

Community Challenges Overview

Who We Are

We are a nonprofit, nonpartisan NGO charity organization dedicated to improving quality of life through practical, innovative, and sustainable solutions. Our work spans housing, livelihoods, energy, water, healthcare, and economic empowerment—because we know that true progress comes when all these areas are strengthened together.

Since our founding, we have worked with governments, municipalities, and community leaders to create long-term change. Our approach focuses on building resilience and opportunity, ensuring that individuals and communities are not just supported in crisis, but equipped to thrive in the future.

Why We Do What We Do

Human dignity is built on more than one foundation. People need safe living conditions, but they also need access to clean water, reliable energy, healthcare, and the ability to earn a stable income. When these needs are met, individuals and families:

  • Experience better health, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Gain financial independence and opportunities to grow businesses or careers.
  • Break cycles of poverty and exclusion by becoming active contributors to their communities.
  • Strengthen social bonds, ensuring that entire regions can grow more resilient together.

Our work is about providing the essential tools and opportunities that help people not only recover from hardship but build sustainable futures.

What We Do

Safe and Flexible Shelter

We provide free RVs, modular apartments, and transitional living units for people displaced by conflict, disaster, or eviction. These housing solutions are designed to be safe, adaptable, and respectful of human dignity.

Shelter Solutions Shelter Solutions

Energy Access

We provide renewable energy systems, such as free hybrid solar panels, to households and communities. These solutions reduce energy poverty, lower costs, and give families independence from unstable or expensive power grids.

Renewable Energy Solutions

Clean Water Access

We deliver free clean water technologies—including Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems and other innovations—so that families and communities can access safe drinking water even where infrastructure is failing or non-existent.

Clean Water Solutions

Healthcare and Wellbeing

We support healthier lives by improving living conditions, providing access to financial and material aid for families facing health-related challenges. Communities with stronger health foundations are more resilient and capable of growth.

Healthcare Support

Livelihoods and Economic Empowerment

We strengthen livelihoods by providing tools and opportunities for economic independence. This includes mobility support such as vehicles, startup materials and equipment for skilled workers, business grants for starting or reviving businesses, and training programs that build practical skills for long-term growth.

Livelihood and Business Support

Global and Local Reach

We operate in more than 70 countries worldwide, including seven in the European Union. Since 1976, we have helped millions of people improve their living standards, restore livelihoods, and access basic resources. Our work adapts to each local context, combining global expertise with community-driven solutions.

By collaborating with municipalities, reusing resources like vacant properties, supporting small businesses, and implementing clean energy systems, we create solutions that are practical, lasting, and scalable.

How Hungary’s Empty Spaces Could Become the Future of Affordable Housing

April 08, 2025

A new research study from Habitat for Humanity Hungary takes a deep dive into this complex picture, offering an eye-opening look at how a more inclusive, affordable, and sustainable housing future might be built—quite literally—out of empty spaces.
